Senior Forestry Officer
Sven has more than 20 year of experience in the area of natural resource management, development and implementation of financing instruments for sustainable land and forest management, design of transformative projects and programmes and result-based management. Currently leading the work of FAO’s Forestry Division related to forest food and nutrition, the forest-based bio-economy as well as livelihoods, production, trade data and statistics. He is leading an interdisciplinary team that serves as clearing house mechanism on forest product data, strengthens countries’ capacities to collect and analyze forest products and socio-economic data and promotes sustainable, innovative and resilient forest product value chains that contribute to food security and a bioeconomy for sustainable food and agriculture. Before joining FAO, he worked more than 10 years for the UNCCD, where he led the work on Land Degradation Neutrality in more than 120 countries. Geographer by training, graduated on the sustainable management of Prunus africana in Madagascar, a valuable medicinal plan protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). After his graduation, he worked more than 10 years at FAO in the area of forests products production and consumption both at headquarters and in the field.
